Just before Christmas, I’m betting that more than a few of you remember that I went up to see Gunner, the very new, very adorable chocolate lab puppy that rounded out a friend’s family. Need a refresher on Gunner? Does this photo jog your memory?

Yes, I thought that it would.

I went up to check on Gunner’s growth progress and found that he is now a solid little pudge but snapping-turtle quick. Eleanor and Beatrice came along for the fun (and yes, because I will never say no to any opportunity that might result in me having tired dogs), and Diane, Mona, and I spent two hours refereeing Wrestlemania. Eleanor can play with Gunner or Beatrice can play with Gunner, but it got a little interesting when Eleanor and Beatrice played with Gunner. They eventually worked the pecking order out, however, and rambunctious fun was had by all. (And for the record, Mona’s cat, Tiger, is at the top of that pecking order.)

Yes, I also got more than a few comments about the rather rectangular nature of Eleanor’s figure.

Since we broke out Diane’s homemade dog cookies in a bald attempt to incite good canine behavior, we probably negated any slimming effects all that roughhousing might have had.

Gunner started to wear out, so he retreated under the chair to get away from the big dogs. He won’t be able to fit under there too much longer!

Go ahead. Say no to that face. Just try it. That face is pretty much the reason that Diane was forced back to her house to get copious amounts of dog treats.

Thanks to Gunner, we had a very pleasant afternoon of tired, sleepy dogs, a behavior I can only hope will last far into a night. For such a little guy, Gunner sure has a big impact!
